Can you tell us a little about yourself? Who is Folakemi?

Sure! I am Folakemi, a nutritionist passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles.

That’s wonderful! I’ll definitely be coming to you if I decide to embark on a 100% healthy lifestyle.

Please do! This is what I love doing.

Speaking of being a nutritionist, I’m curious—what inspired you to study data analysis as a nutritionist?

Throughout my journey as a nutritionist, I've realised how crucial data is in driving meaningful change. Data informs research, shapes policy, and improves health outcomes. However, collecting data is only the first step; analysing it to uncover valuable insights is vital for informed decision-making. This realisation sparked my interest in studying data analysis.

Was it purely your interest in the course that drove you, or was it the need to integrate data analysis into your career as a nutritionist?

Honestly, both. I’m genuinely interested in data analysis, and I also understand how essential it is to my career as a nutritionist.

That’s amazing—you’re well-rounded! Moving on, how do you think data analysis can improve the field of nutrition?

Data analysis in nutrition has immense potential. It can help personalise nutrition recommendations, identify trends in health issues, and develop targeted interventions to address those issues effectively.

Do you think it was a smart decision to weave data analysis into your career as a nutritionist?

Absolutely!

I’m glad you feel that way. What challenges have you faced as a nutritionist when it comes to gathering and analysing data? Some of the challenges I’ve faced include: Ensuring data quality and accuracy. Limited resources for both data collection and analysis. Overcoming biases during data collection and analysis.

That sounds tough. What has been the most challenging aspect of studying data analysis?

The assignments and assessments given by my tutor have been quite challenging. However, they also push me to learn more and practise harder to get better.

So instead of letting challenges stop you, you’ve turned them into motivation?

Yes, exactly.

That’s impressive! What are your career goals after completing the course?

I aim to become a public health nutritionist passionate about healthy lifestyles in Nigeria. I plan to work with the government and various organisations to use data-driven insights to create policies that encourage healthy eating and overall well-being.
